(Bhutan 2009 Solar Eclips)

Buddhists believe that the solar eclipse day, we will be strongly influenced by the various actions brought by karma, not only visible, or even invisible beings; doing good will strongly bring good influence to all beings, however if doing bad, it will bring evil influence too.

So during the solar eclipse day, Buddhists normally will choose to take precepts, chanting or doing good, then send the merit to all sentient beings, it will help to multiply the wisdom and blessing obtained on that day. On solar eclipse day, if practicing good, the positive effect will be enhanced 10 thousand times. Conversely, if doing evil at that day, the negative energy or effect will bring influence equivalent to 10 thousand times too. According to Tibetan lamas (Lama Zopa Rinpoche), during the eclipse day, the positive or negative influence even huge compare with the solar eclipse day or ordinary day. It is equivalent to one millions times effect and if this happen in Buddha's Birthday, that ratio will increase from 1 million to 7 millions.

Therefore, many Buddhists choose to be vegetarian on that day, avoid killing; practice chanting, doing charity and taking 5 or 8 precepts in order to obtain wisdom and blessing from the good act.
